SEBORRHEIC KERATOSIS
(SEH·BR·EE·UHK KEH·RUH·TOW·SUHS)
WHAT IS SEBORRHEIC KERATOSIS?
The appearance of these growths can be light tan to brown or black with a rough texture and a bumpy, grainy, surface that crumbles; however they can also appear to be smooth and waxy.
These growths often grow on the chest or the back but can appear across the body.
Seborrheic Keratosis grows slowly, in groups, or individually, and is a skin condition that most people will develop during their lifetime.
It’s important to note a seborrheic keratosis is not a mole (Nevus) and is typically harmless. However, it is still a good idea to monitor and check your skin on a regular basis.
Sometimes a seborrheic keratosis can itch. Scratching it can result in bleeding and or sometimes even scarring. Treatment or removal is only required when it causes irritation or discomfort.
PAY ATTENTION FOR THE FOLLOWING:
– A fast-growing mole.
– A scaly or crusted growth on the skin.
– A sore that will not heal.
– If you have an area of skin that suddenly changes in shape, size, or appearance.
– If your skin is badly broken from scratching.
– Signs of infection such as pain, a warm sensation, or swelling in your skin, red streaks near a wound, pus coming from a wound, or a fever not caused by the flu or other illness.
