HYPERHIDROSIS

(HI-PUR-HI-DROE-SIS)

WHAT IS HYPERHIDROSIS?

Hyperhidrosis is excessive or abnormal sweating not connected to or related to the temperature of your environment or any exercise activities. Hyperhidrosis can cause excessive sweating, with individuals sweating enough to soak through clothes or even drip sweat.

This condition can disrupt a person’s daily activities and cause social anxiety and embarrassment. However, a Hyperhidrosis treatment is an option to help assist with any undesirable symptoms related to this condition.

The most common form of Hyperhidrosis is “Primary Focal Hyperhidrosis.”

Hyperhidrosis signals sweat glands to activate, with no physical activity trigger or an increase in temperature.

This condition commonly affects the palms of the hands, soles of the feet, and occasionally the face.

HYPERHIDROSIS TREATMENT

Treatment depends on the type of hyperhidrosis and where excessive sweating occurs on the body. Your dermatologist also considers your overall health and other factors.

It generally begins with prescription-strength antiperspirants and alternative medication or therapy will be required if unsuccessful.

BOTOX INJECTIONS

Botox is one way to treat excessive sweating. Medical professionals inject small amounts of Botox into multiple areas of the underarm.

The injections temporarily block the chemical in the body that stimulates the sweat glands.

The reduced sweating can last four to six months or longer depending on the patient. When excessive sweating returns, re-treatment is an option for the patient.
