AACNE SCARRING
HOW ARE ACNE SCARS FORMED?
Atrophic scars or acne scars are formed when a breakout penetrates the deeper layers of the skin and cause damage to the surrounding tissue. Thankfully an acne scar treatment is available to treat these unwanted blemishes.
These scars are most commonly located on the face and appear because not enough collagen is able to form while the “wound” is healing.
THE 3 TYPES OF SCARS:
Boxcar
Boxcar scars are wide, U-shaped scars that have a flat bottom with sharp/ defined edges and can be either shallow or deep. The shallower a Boxcar scar is, the better it will respond to the acne scar treatment.
Ice Pick
Ice Pick Scars are more narrow and V-shaped. These scars go deeper into the skin and resemble small round or oval holes like a chicken pox scar. These ice-pick scars are the most difficult to treat because of how far they can extend beneath the surface of the skin.
Rolling
Rolling scars are wide depressions on the cheeks. These scars don’t have a distinct edge and have a rolling appearance.
ACNE SCAR TREATMENT
While acne scar treatment is not for everyone, some people feel that the scars affect their everyday life.
Dermatologists often recommend treatment when you can answer “yes” to one or more of the following questions:
- – Do I want to get rid of my acne scars?
- – Do I feel my scars limit my opportunities to date, get a job, advance my career, or perform well in school?
- – Am I less social because of my scars?
Options for treating acne scars may include fillers, botox, skin tightening, and laser treatments.
